As part of Joan Mitchell Foundation's ongoing collaboration with Voices of Contemporary Art (VoCA), please join us on Thursday, October 12, when abstract painter and Yaqui Indian Mario Martinez will sit down with Steven O'Banion, Director of Conservation at Glenstone, to discuss his life, work, and personal philosophy.

Mario Martinez's work was featured in 2005 in a one-person retrospective at the Smithsonian's National Museum of the American Indian in New York, and in 2017, he was recognized with the NYFA Murray Reich Distinguished Artist Award. He is a recipient of the Joan Mitchell Foundation's Creating a Living Legacy (CALL) award.

"For me, the most rewarding aspect of the CALL program is seeing oneself as an important artist/creator that matters in one's time or history... Now that's empowerment!"   — Mario Martinez
