After School Art

Working directly with community partners and their existing after school programs, the Joan Mitchell Foundation has offered New York City students high quality arts classes since 2005.

After School Art classes are co-taught by two professional artists, and structured to promote skill building and encourage artistic exploration. The Foundation hires and trains Artist-Teachers, who continue to receive ongoing professional development  during their tenure to ensure best practices for the classroom.

In addition to the Artist-Teachers, the Foundation's Art Education Program provides staff training and materials. Currently, After School Art provides over 40 classes per week, serving approximately 800 students in the New York City metro area.

The Foundation currently partners with organizations in Brooklyn and Queens. Registration for the After School Art classes is managed by each community partner. Please visit the partner's websites for more information on how to participate in after school programming.
