About Britt Ransom
Britt Ransom is a half Black queer artist and educator living in New Orleans, LA. Ransom is currently serving as the Associate Director of the School of Art and Associate Professor of Sculpture/4D at California State University Long Beach, specializing in digital fabrication technologies. Ransom is the recipient of numerous awards and grants, including the ZERO1 American Arts Incubator Fellowship, Los Angeles Clean Tech Incubator, the Arctic Circle Research Residency, and the CAA Professional Development Fellowship. Ransom received her MFA from the University of Illinois at Chicago (2011) and her BFA from The Ohio State University (2008). Ransom lives in Gentilly with her wife Melissa, who is Youth and Family Program Specialist at the National World War II Museum, and their three dogs BaconBit, Beetle, and Chuckie.

As an artist, I strive to probe the lines between human, animal, and environmental relations while exploring emergent technologies. My work specifically deals with the transformation of material states through digital technologies such as 3D Printing, Laser Cutting, and CNC Milling. The main motivation in my work is to explore the paradoxical bonds between human, urban and natural ecologies, the inhabitants of said spaces, and the co-evolution between the shifting digital innovations and our human selves.”
