Joan Mitchell Fellowship, 2022
I am interested in bringing landscape, specifically that of the Northern Plains, into an object through abstraction. Combining artificial materials together with traditional materials that my tribes—the Mandan and Hidatsa—used for utilitarian, storytelling, ceremonial, and decorative means, I reimagine how these plant and animal materials function in the context of a new object—one that seeks to explore the importance of place, land, and how we interact with it.”
