Painters & Sculptors Grant, 2017
In my work I create a community and take the viewer on a tour of the neighborhood. The viewer becomes an unfamiliar visitor engaging with the characters. The visitor obtains the gaze of characters when walking into moments of play, people strolling down the street, or hanging in the parking lot. Throughout the scenes I question the power dynamics that play out in relationships: Who's the protected? Who's the protector? How are genuine connections made, how are they avoided?”
