2015 Organizational Grant Program Recipients: New Orleans Initiative

New York, NY - The Joan Mitchell Foundation is excited to announce the recipients of the 2015 Organizational Grant Program New Orleans Initiative.

This particular initiative of the Organizational Grant Program funds programs and projects based in New Orleans that engage visual artists and align with the Foundation's mission and values. Based on the Foundation's role in New Orleans and commitment to its dynamic arts community, we are excited to support these organizations so invested in the city's individual visual artists.

To apply, organizations submitted a letter of inquiry which described their organization, the program/project for which they were seeking funding, and grant request amount. Subsequently, selected organizations were invited to submit full applications, which were reviewed by Foundation staff, members of the Board of Directors, and an outside independent reviewer. Grants were awarded to the below organizations in amounts ranging from $6,000-$15,000.

The Foundation's focus in organizational granting is to support the promotion of cultural equity and expanded opportunities for artists at all points in their careers. The Foundation first provided organizational funding in New Orleans in 2007. This initiative aligns with the opening of the Joan Mitchell Center's new studio building and renovated space. In addition, it provides the Foundation with an opportunity to publicly share its commitment to the community and creativity inherent in New Orleans. About the Joan Mitchell Foundation

Established in 1993, the Joan Mitchell Foundation is an artist-endowed non-profit organization. The Foundation celebrates the legacy of Joan Mitchell and expands her vision to support the aspirations and development of diverse contemporary artists. We work to broaden the recognition of artists and their essential contributions to communities and society.

In addition to this initiative, other programs undertaken by the Foundation include free art education programming for New York City youth and young adults, the Painters & Sculptors Grant Program, the Emerging Artist Grant Program, grants to arts organizations nationally, the Creating a Living Legacy (CALL) program that supports mature artists in the areas of studio organization, archiving and inventory management, as well as grants to artists and arts communities in need of emergency support after a disaster. The Joan Mitchell Center in New Orleans is an artist residency center that hosts national and local artists, and provides public programming that serves the broader community of New Orleans.
