In the Absence of... is a group exhibition celebrating the culmination of the Joan Mitchell Foundation’s 2019 Early Art Practitioners Council, a peer-learning experience for early career artists centered on professional and creative development.

The exhibition presents the work of nine artists challenging dichotomies that frame their existence and representing their experiences in relation to institutionalized forms of marginalization. It is a collective feminist refiguring of the artists’ own realities in the absence of a system for processing and healing.
