Artists-in-Residence (AIR) Program Summer 2018 Alannah Sears
Early Art Practitioner AIR
Alannah Sears was born and raised in uptown New York City, the third of four girls. Alannah explores her ambiguous and evolving identity with images surrounding and refracting off family, herself, culture, and the dichotomy of her evolving environments. She works intuitively with various mixtures of images, colors, patterns, and textures to create an environment or assortments of characters, where they can be warped into other planes of existence that reflects upon the inner workings of her psyche. Recently graduating from SUNY Purchase, she has found a new love for experimenting and pushing her problem-solving skills to discover new imagery and expand her perception of beauty, order, perspective, and community. She has been developing these ideas through her long relationship with The Joan Mitchell Foundation where she has been involved in two of their residencies, their EAP program in New York City and New Orleans. Alannah continues to find new ways to challenge herself, expand her understandings and build a relationship with her surroundings working and living in New York City.
