About Gabrielle Garcia Steib
Gabrielle Garcia Steib is an archivist, filmmaker, and photographer from New Orleans frequenting Nicaragua and Mexico. She is interested in ways in which Latin America is connected with the Deep South, specifically ways in which collective memory and images are used to communicate in political landscapes. Gabrielle holds a BA in English and Digital Media from Loyola University, as well as a certificate in Spanish from the Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). Her work has been exhibited at NOMA and the Contemporary Arts Center in New Orleans, and Museo de la Ciudad and Los 14 in Mexico City. Her films have been screened at New Orleans Film Festival, Taxco International Film Festival, and Baja California International Film Festival. She has written and translated for various magazines including Terremoto and ANTIGRAVITY Magazine. She is developing a multimedia archival project, Imagenes de Nicaragua, which seeks to make photographs from Nicaragua more accessible and public.

My creative practice is mostly research-based, investigative, and rooted in curiosity about connections between places, people, and landscapes. My initial work was rooted in my family archives, and I've expanded my photographic and video practices to touch upon the present day, while using outdated tools such as Super 8 and experimental film with paint, found sounds, objects, and images.”
