Artists-in-Residence (AIR) Program Spring / Summer 2020 Rose Nestler

Rose Nestler is an interdisciplinary artist focusing on sculpture and video. She received her MFA from Brooklyn College in 2017, where she was awarded a Graduate Teaching Fellowship. Her work has been exhibited at a variety of galleries and institutions including the American Academy of Arts and Letters, Thierry Goldberg, Ortega Y Gasset, Underdonk, Smack Mellon, University of Illinois/Springfield, Crush Curatorial, and CUCHIFRITOS Gallery and Project Space. In 2018, Rose was a recipient of the BRIC ArtFP Open Call and her solo show, Gymnasia, was exhibited in their Project Room in Brooklyn. Her wall hangings and video were part of a two person show presented at SPRING/BREAK2019. She has been an artist-in-residence at Lighthouse Works, Kimmel Harding Nelson Center for the Arts, Vermont Studio Center, and Byrdcliffe Artist Colony. Her work has been featured and reviewed in Vulture, Maake Magazine, Artspace, and Art of Choice.
“I utilize the language of soft sculpture to call to mind very real power structures while simultaneously subverting them, highlighting an absurdity, an impotence, or a fundamental flaw inherent in those structures. I mine societal expectations of and relationships to well-known objects—and twist them in the process.”
