About Diane Appaix-Castro
Diane Appaix-Castro is a French and Spanish sculptor and experiential installation artist born in Paris, France. She grew up in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and is currently based in New Orleans, Louisiana. She has an MFA in Sculpture from Tulane University and a BFA from Suffolk University. In 2020 she was awarded first place in DIY Art for the show titled Reconnecting in Quarantine at Tulane Hillel. In 2021, Diane received the School of Liberal Arts Graduate Student Summer Research and Write-Up Fellowship Grant and participated in the Southern Heat Exchange Online Residency. She is a member of the artist collective, The Front, has a studio at Camp St. Studios, and runs the non-profit gallery, Studio Appaix. Aspects of her practice involve researching cross-cultural scientific and philosophical thinking, marine biology, and outer space to expand her vision of the possible and wonder what may lie beyond the limits of our perception.

In my work, I strive to create sensorily complex universes and experiences that challenge the viewer's perception and allow them to explore the unknown. By estranging materials and experiences, I aim to evoke a sense of wonder and force the questioning of reality. Ultimately, I hope viewers leave with a deeper sense of curiosity and humility for that which they do not know.”
